What made now the right time to bring this collection back?
For the past two years I've been traveling the country doing trunk shows, and in every city, without fail, someone brings up the Sunburst collection. Some people tell me they still wear their pieces. Others remember exactly when they bought them. It was such a genuine surprise because I didn't fully realize the impact the collection had. Hearing those stories made me want to revisit it through the lens of how I design today.
What is the Sunburst collection inspired by?
The sun has always represented something bigger than ourselves. It's about light, energy, and feeling connected to the universe. That symbolism has always resonated with me, and it still does.
Did you realize at the time how culturally massive this collection would become?
Not at all. I never create with that expectation. I make things that feel authentic to me and hope they find the people they're meant to connect with. Seeing that connection continue all these years later has been incredibly meaningful.
Why do you think people are still obsessed with this era of fashion so many years later?
I think it was one of the last eras that felt genuinely unfiltered and a little messy. Personal style wasn't being shaped by algorithms or social media in the way it is now. People experimented more, took risks, and embraced a little bit of chaos.
What feels timeless about the collection, and what had to evolve for today's audience?
The symbolism feels timeless. The collection was never about chasing a trend, it was about creating pieces that carried meaning. What has evolved is the craftsmanship. I approach design differently now. The details, the materials, where it’s made, and the overall execution reflect where I am today.
